Places of Interest
Slieve Gullion is a mountain in the Cooley Mountains. It is in the south of County Armagh in Northern Ireland, and the highest point in the county at 573 metres.
The mountain features in the epic poem Táin Bó Cuailnge.
There are two cairns, including a passage grave just below the peak.
612 hectares of dry heath on the mountain have been designated a Special Area of Conservation and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Visit the Ti Chulainn Heritage Centre and learn more about the local cultures and traditions. A trip to the Ballykeel Dolmen is a must or the home of Art McCooey, a Gaelic poet and scholar is close by.
Ballykeel Dolmen is to the south west of Camlough at the western foot of Slieve Gullion. It is an outstanding example of a Portal Tomb.
The dolmen is made up of two portal stones with a sill between and a lower backstone supporting a huge capstone.
Camlough Lake, also nearby, is renowned for pike fishing.
